Farming all afternoon

Ok so maybe not farming, like with a tractor or anything, but I was on my hands and knees planting my seedlings. Now we only did hardy plants that could handle if we have a frost or low temperatures in the next week or two. So we planted 30 onions and 33 broccoli. Mr. Smith also started fixing the roof of the building we are transforming into a chicken coop. It is split in half so the other half will eventually be for pigs one day. Maybe next year....getting used to chickens first and butchering them. Well not all of them. :) Mr. Smith also started putting gutters up around the chicken coop/pig pen house to catch all the water to water the garden, make mud pits for the pigs on one side and on the other side to water our corn field or wheat field, we are still deciding. We have time because we have to get a bush hog out there and take down briers and small trees and till up the area and protect it from ground hogs...they are really bad around here. My Father and Mr. Smith have been taking care of them for the most part, but they are persistent little buggers. I will post pictures when I empty my camera, tried taking pictures at my dad's birthday party last night and filled it up. :( Anyways, Mr. Smith also cut up some fallen trees for firewood, to make a stock pile so when we get the slaughter house/ summer kitchen up and running and smoke house then we have one less thing to worry about. When we bought this property there were so many run down buildings, full of potential. There are still 2 other buildings on our property that I haven't even mentioned! LOL

On another note we went to a local Burger King and asked if they could save any 5 gallon buckets they might not be using and Mr. Smith picked up 2 a few days ago and they said they would save up more if we gave them a few more weeks. We are going to be hanging our tomato plants upside down. The roma and beef steak are going in 5 gallon buckets and the cherry tomatoes are going in 3 gallon buckets (We got those from Cabela's Campfire restaurant) Now just to build the structures to hang them. That's for another day.
